Energy Use & Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Our climate is changing, and greenhouse gas emissions are the cause. Recognizing the risk that changing weather patterns and higher temperatures bring to our planet, our communities, and our business, we are working to identify our areas of highest emissions and take action to reduce them.
Scope 1 and 2 Emissions
We have set a Net Zero target for our Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030. We will achieve this by working to transition our electricity use to renewable sources by 2025, minimizing natural gas and diesel use, and purchasing carbon offsets for remaining emissions.
Information on our 2023 energy use and Scope 1 and 2 emissions is below.
Scope 3 Emissions
The majority of our emission impacts occur within our supply chain. In 2021, we conducted a Scope 3 emissions screen to identify our emission “hot spots” (using 2019 data to avoid any supply chain anomalies created by the unusual events of the COVID-19 pandemic). From this, we found that our areas of highest emissions are within our dairy protein supply chain, as well as transportation and distribution logistics. We are working with suppliers in both of these areas to better understand emissions drivers and opportunities for reduction. More information about how we are working with our dairy protein suppliers can be found on our Regenerative Agriculture page.
Information on our 2019 scope 3 emissions is below.
